What's involved with this role: Interim Principal Committee Services Officer/ Admin - Democratic Services Reference no: Warwick 5256023 Pay Rate: £30.00 per hour PAYE 37 Monday Friday, 08:45 - 17:15 This opening assignment is for 2-3 months City: LEAMINGTON SPA Ensure the Council’s decision-making bodies operate correctly and provide support on data protection, freedom of information and complaint process/policies. Key Responsibilities: Manage meetings in accordance with the Council’s procedure rules and legislation which include agenda planning, checking / clearing / preparing reports and agendas, attendance at meetings and producing accurate and comprehensive minutes/decision notes. Act as an advisor to Chairs, Councillors, recognised trade unions operating within Warwick District and any other person attending any meeting as defined within the Council’s Constitution, on their powers and responsibilities, on the Council’s Constitution (including Council Procedure Rules and Declarations of Interest) and other relevant legislation. Take responsibility for maintaining and publishing the necessary public registers including Declarations of Interest, attendance and gifts / hospitality, in accordance with legislation. Liaise with and assist elected Members, service areas and undertake, as required, research and other projects and Task and Finish Groups. Prepare work programmes/plans, plan and conduct meetings (for example objectives, progress chasing, research and report preparation) and anything necessary to progress and secure meeting outcomes. To attend and offer guidance at pre-agenda and briefing meetings with the Chairs and Lead Officers. Provide support for members to enable them to act as advocates for their communities and notify lead officers and outside organisations of Councillor appointments and to monitor and ensure members provide annual reports on these outside appointments. Develop, introduce and maintain relevant procedures for public meetings. Qualifications: 3 A Levels Grade A - C or equivalent including Mathematics and English A minimum of BTEC Higher National Diploma or Certificate in Business Administration, Public Administration or equivalent Association of Democratic Services Officers Certificate or Diploma Experience: Experience of providing advice at meetings. At least two years’ experience of committee/democratic administration within local government Skills & Abilities: High level of oral and written skills. Demonstrated high level of IT skills through appropriate experience or qualifications Ability to interpret and advise others on local government law and practice of meetings. Ability to advise others on Access to Information legislation. Ability to prepare concise and accurate written material, including interpreting discussions which take place at meetings and recording decisions reached.
