The successful candidate will have previous experience in an education-based attendance officer role and be dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of attendance and punctuality for all students. Key Responsibilities of a Primary School Attendance Officer: Attendance Management: Monitor and track student attendance across the school, ensuring that all attendance records are accurate and up-to-date. Identify patterns of absence or lateness and work with relevant staff to investigate and address any concerns. Contact parents and carers to follow up on student absences, ensuring any unexplained absences are quickly resolved. Process attendance data daily and ensure that all attendance codes are used correctly in line with school policy. Provide regular attendance reports to the senior leadership team, including trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Liaison with Parents and Carers: Maintain positive relationships with parents and carers to address any attendance-related concerns. Provide support and advice to parents and carers regarding the importance of good attendance and punctuality. Coordinate meetings with parents to discuss attendance concerns and develop action plans to improve student attendance where necessary. Send out letters to parents regarding attendance issues, including lateness, unauthorized absences, or repeated non-attendance. Safeguarding and Well-being: Work closely with the pastoral team to ensure the well-being of students who have frequent absences, offering support where necessary. Ensure that any attendance-related safeguarding issues are identified and promptly escalated to the appropriate staff. Maintain confidential records for vulnerable students and work collaboratively with social services or external agencies when required. Data Management and Reporting: Input and maintain accurate attendance records in the school's attendance system. Provide analysis and reports on attendance trends to senior leadership, governors, and other stakeholders as required. Ensure compliance with local authority guidelines and government regulations related to attendance and pupil registration. Assist in preparing data for internal and external audits related to attendance. Support to Senior Leadership and Staff: Provide guidance and training to school staff regarding attendance policies, procedures, and reporting. Work with teachers and support staff to identify students who are at risk of poor attendance and support them with interventions. Assist the leadership team with the development of strategies to improve overall attendance and punctuality across the school. Key Skills and Qualifications: Qualifications: Previous experience in an Education-based Attendance Officer role is essential. Experience: Proven experience of working as an Attendance Officer in a primary school setting, or a similar education-based role. A strong understanding of attendance policies, procedures, and legislation within the education sector. Experience of using attendance management systems. Skills and Attributes: Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff. Strong organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. A proactive and solution-focused approach to addressing attendance challenges. Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information in line with safeguarding requirements. A genuine commitment to promoting student welfare and improving attendance outcomes.
