SEND Teaching Assistant required for a specialist setting that provides education for children amd young people aged 11-19 years with a variety of moderate learning difficultes, Autism, Downs Syndrome, and Global Developmenent Delay. The school are looking for someone who has a genuine passion to have a positive impact and to make a difference in young peoples lives.
The school are looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant from either a mainstream or specialist setting, or someone with first hand experience. Knowledge of SEN is a plus, and the ability to respond to the emotional, social, and mental health needs of our children and young people is essential. Your role will include ensuring the safety of our students and supporting their access to learning by addressing individual needs, covering social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters.
- Assist the teacher in managing student behavior, reporting any challenges or concerns as needed.
- Supervise and support students, ensuring their safety and full participation in learning activities.
- Build strong relationships with students, serving as a positive role model and responding appropriately to their individual needs.
- Promote independent learning for students, considering their specific challenges, as well as their individual learning, language development, or behavior targets.
- Foster positive interaction among students and encourage active engagement in learning activities.
- Assist students in implementing the strategies outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Support students in participating in various programs and interventions, helping them document and reflect on their learning progress.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with a Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics, grade C or above.
Additional qualifications or experience in special educational needs (SEN).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Knowledge of strategies to support children with a wide range of SEND, including autism spectrum conditions, moderate to severe learning difficulties, hearing and visual impairments, specific genetic conditions, physical disabilities, communication and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating patience and empathy.
Ability to maintain focus and positivity in a dynamic school setting.
