Design Coordinator – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Location: Hertfordshire Reports to: Design Manager / Project Manager Contract Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Design Coordinator with a background in water and wastewater infrastructure to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a design professional who is passionate about infrastructure development and is looking to play a key role in the coordination and delivery of critical civil engineering projects. As Design Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process across multiple project stages, from early concept through to detailed design and delivery. You will act as the central point of contact between internal teams, external consultants, clients, and construction partners, ensuring that all design deliverables meet project requirements, are technically accurate, and are delivered on time. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate the design process for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless communication between all parties involved. Manage design documentation and workflows, maintaining version control and compliance with project timelines and specifications. Support the implementation and management of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and work within Common Data Environments (CDEs). Liaise with internal engineering teams, external design consultants, and clients to resolve design-related queries and provide technical support. Ensure all design outputs align with project specifications, statutory requirements, and industry standards. Maintain regular communication with the construction team to ensure alignment between design and site requirements. Manage design approvals, submissions, and the tracking of changes and comments from stakeholders. Support the project team in coordinating Temporary Works, ensuring understanding of design responsibilities and facilitating engagement with internal and external Temporary Works Designers. Monitor project design risks, provide input into risk registers, and assist with mitigation planning. Produce reports, presentations, and documentation using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration within the design team.Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in a design coordination or engineering role within the water and wastewater infrastructure sector. Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent); candidates currently working towards qualification through an apprenticeship or similar route will also be considered. Strong knowledge of Temporary Works, including design types, associated responsibilities (Designer/Coordinator/Contractor), and best practices. Familiarity with BIM processes and working within CDE platforms. High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated project coordination, time management, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Self-driven and results-focused with a proactive and positive attitude.
