Data is key to achieving this and as a Lead Data Steward you will drive forward our Data Vision to become a Digital Leader to utilise the power of data and innovation, providing internal and external stakeholders with trusted data, centrally held, easy to understand and integrated with our data products and services. Allowing our business and the industry the means to innovate and exploit this data to create new tools and insight that will enable decarbonisation.
Your passion for educating others on data management practices together with an enthusiasm for driving improvement of our data quality and processes, will help create the foundations needed to achieve our ambitious goals, ensuring we keep the lights on for Great Britain’s electricity consumers and forge the path to a sustainable future for everyone.
This role is based in Warwick or Wokingham. We offer hybrid flexible working between the office and home. Candidates must be willing to travel between our office locations in Great Britain.

Key accountabilities
1. Proactively engage with project teams and business directorates as their data partner to understand their key business processes and the data flows to identify critical data and its usage in NESO.
2. Working together in a central team, act as a key contact to provide advice, guidance and training to the business teams on all our data management policies, procedures, controls, and tooling.
3. Work across business teams to drive data governance practices throughout the end-to-end data journey, identifying data quality concerns whilst driving continuous improvement activities.
4. Assist on the capture, curation, and consumption of metadata for our data assets in a centralised catalogue.
5. Provide ongoing input into the development of data governance practices and tooling to ensure they are fit for purpose for the business to operate. Working with the policy makers, IT teams and enablement to deliver the solution.
6. Develop and undertake the working practices and procedures to proactively manage Data Governance workflows that involve a centralised assessment, triage or maintenance.
7. Assist with data troubleshooting and signposting within the data governance and quality space.
8. Ability to network and provide representation of our business at internal and industry data events.
About you

3. Has experience in senior stakeholder management, demonstrating authority and adaptability.
4. Has experience of data governance practices and its importance in our industry.
5. Demonstrates solid experience of driving outcomes working with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders, including analytics, design/user experience, and user enablement.
6. Shows the ability to self-organise, work independently with initiative, problem solve in a timely manner while working as a team to drive outcomes.
About what you'll get
A competitive salary between £58,900 – 65,000 – dependent on experience and capability.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)
In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.
The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.
The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.
