Key Responsibilities As a Rail Development Manager, you will be responsible for maximising the benefits of the regions Rail network through developing and coordinating activity across the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) that will support the growth of rail use across the Region. You will support the implementation of strategies in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, acting as the lead to review, analyse, and respond to TOC business plans. You will oversee the implementation of policies at local level across the South Yorkshire region. Ensuring that rail and station services allow passengers to connect with essential services, by working collaboratively with key stakeholders including TOC’s, TfN and Rail North Committee you will ensure that the requirements of South Yorkshire are represented. You will champion accessibility and community needs, encouraging the use of rail from under-represented groups, ensuring that stations meet the needs of passengers and protecting timetables. You will also push for improvements in connectivity and capacity across the regional railway and improving the quality and frequency of services between all destinations in our region and with other northern towns and cities. Overseeing, as required, the transfer of SYMCA rail assets within the rail industry and acting as project sponsor of projects to improve the quality, service delivery and integration of the rail network, with a particular focus on improving the customer’s experience. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise You will have excellent verbal, written and presentational skills, being able to understand complexity and develop and articulate concise clear reasoning and recommendations to decision makers. Showing an ability to work at senior levels within the organisation and its partnerships, sometimes in areas of challenge and conflict. Great organisation and time management skills, being able to self-motivate and using your own initiative completing tasks under minimal supervision. You will have previous experience in a similar management role, managing both assets and a team of professional officers. Be professionally qualified, preferably a degree (or equivalent in relevant field or equivalent level of professional experience). A strong working knowledge of the rail industry, awareness of relevant rail-related legislation and its application and professional sector knowledge.
