As our business looks to deliver its ambitious strategy of growth, we are looking for a Patent Attorney to join our Group IP Team to provide high quality, practical and timely advice relevant to intellectual property. * Degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry or other life science related discipline
* Be a qualified European Patent Attorney. Chartered Patent Attorney qualification also advantageous. Finals standard candidate will also be considered.
* Experience as an in-house Patent Attorney within Life Sciences, Biotechnology or similar industry. Attorneys in private practice will also be considered, but previous commercial experience is preferable.
* Strong understanding of world-wide patent and related IP law and procedures, particularly US PTO system/requirements
* Good understanding of litigation procedure
* Advocacy skills necessary to appear before the EPO Opposition Division and Board of Appeals
* Excellent client management/service skills and portfolio management experience are highly desirable
* Confident communication skills. Be able to negotiate and influence diplomatically
* Be able to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
* Be able to deal with complex, detailed issues. Good analytical and problem-solving skills, commercial acumen

What You’ll Be Doing:

* Conduct freedom to operate analyses and provide opinions
* Draft, file and prosecute patent applications, and defend granted patents
* Formulate patent strategies for relevant business areas
* Work closely with and make recommendations to Scientists, Technicians, R&D Managers, New Product Development and Marketing teams on patent risks, opportunities and priorities, both internally and with partners
* Raise awareness of and deliver training on IP, particularly on the importance and commercial advantage that patents/IP can provide in achieving innovation and/or commercial objectives
* Collaborate closely with colleagues in other functions, for example in agreement drafting and review
* Manage and instruct outside counsel and overseas associates
* Provide advice, including infringement and validity advice, on both internal and third-party patents, and manage opposition proceedings when required
* Prepare patent budget figures for relevant business areas
* Ensure timely attorney resource is available to meet business deadlines
* Ensure that all statutory worldwide patent deadlines are met

This is a hybrid position based at our Cowick head office in Snaith, East Yorkshire.
Remote option within the UK will also be considered.
