Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Band 6 position within the Manchester Local Care Organisation for a podiatrist to join the Community Podiatry team in North Manchester. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated podiatrist to join our progressive podiatry team based at North Manchester General Hospital / North Manchester Community. The role will focus on the management of complex patients with foot ulcers and include vascular assessment. There will also be an element of other clinics such as rapid access clinics; this service is integrated with the hospital diabetes and vascular team which the podiatrist supports on a weekly basis.
Care is delivered in various settings including community clinics, out-patient clinics and patients’ homes, so a car owner driver is essential. The post holder will contribute to ongoing audit, service improvement and research projects.
Main duties of the job
1. To work in the acute sector (in-patient and out-patient) and on occasion community clinics, residential and nursing homes, day centres or in the patient’s own home.
2. To actively manage patient treatment programmes in line with care planning and discharge guidelines.
3. To use the decision-making process to identify when patients require the intervention of other professionals and/or departmental specialist areas by following agreed referral pathways.
4. To assist in nail surgery and undertake a minimum of 20 procedures under supervision if not already proficient in this procedure.
5. To participate in the specialist rotation placements in areas such as diabetes, patho-mechanics, vascular, etc.
6. To arrange for the provision of podiatry orthoses, pressure relieving insoles and shoe inserts where appropriate.
7. To be responsible for the day-to-day planning of personal workloads for clinics, for the completion of home visits and for visits to residential and nursing homes.
8. To be flexible and provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence.
9. Complete all necessary administrative duties associated with the post.
10. Any other duties as required by the department.
11. Comply with all Trust Policies, guidelines and procedures.
