We are currently working with an East Midlands based Local Authority who are recruiting for a Technical Fire Safety Officer t o join the council on an interim basis and assist them by leading on the mitigation of fire risk in building design. Technical Fire Safety Officer Start Date: ASAP Duration: 4 Months Initially (likely extension) Rate: Negotiable (inside IR35 umbrella) Hybrid Working Arrangement: In the East Midlands Responsibilities: Conduct structural and systems-based fire risk assessments across various building types, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards and maintaining accurate records Assess fire safety compliance in third-party properties, including care homes and HMOs, in collaboration with contract monitoring officers, fire services, and local authorities Provide technical fire safety guidance to Project Design Teams, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and policies, including Approved Document B and BB100 Offer fire engineering advice on compartmentation, material specifications, and safety measures to design practices Respond to legislative and regulatory changes, such as those arising from the Grenfell Tower fire, and communicate updates to colleagues and stakeholders Represent the Council at local fire safety and resilience group meetings Prepare reports on fire safety and legislative changes for senior management and departmental teams Manage fire precautionary projects, including programming, tender specifications, and budget control for Council-managed buildings Coordinate and review fire evacuation procedures at County Hall, liaising with stakeholders, including NHS staff and fire services Provide professional advice and maintain close collaboration with the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Service Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, codes of practice, and official guidance in all duties Requirements: NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate or equivalent Extensive knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (fire safety) Order 2005, Building Regulations (Part B) and associated legislation and guidance documents such as BB100 Construction project (fire safety principles) knowledge and application Proven track record of carrying out fire risk assessments in a range of property types Practical experience of fire engineering principles and project management Experience of the design process and the principles of risk reduction If this is of any interest and you are available for work, please apply with your most up to date CV or send it directly to
