We're looking for an Assistant Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. In this role, you'll contribute directly to the mission of improving population health outcomes, tackling inequalities, and enhancing productivity within the NHS Integrated Care System (ICS). As an analyst, you'll use your expertise in data analytics to provide crucial insights that inform decision-making, identify trends, and help the NHS optimise its services. You'll work with a variety of data sets and tools such as SQL and Power BI, collaborating with stakeholders across the health and care system.
Main duties of the job
In this Assistant Analyst role, you'll be responsible for analysing large and complex health and care datasets to generate insights that directly inform decision-making and improve healthcare services. You'll utilise tools such as Power BI and SQL to create dynamic dashboards and reports, supporting key performance tracking and operational analysis. Working closely with various stakeholders, both internal and external, you'll ensure that data is accurately collected, validated, and used effectively across the organisation and system.
In addition to generating reports and visualisations, you'll play a crucial role in monitoring and enhancing data quality, identifying trends, and forecasting future needs within the healthcare system. Your work will help drive improvements in service delivery and support the development of efficient, data-driven strategies.
Person Specification
Qualifications, training and professional membership
* Educated to degree level or level 6 vocational qualification or equivalent level of knowledge, or in-depth diploma in a relevant subject (such as data analytics within Health and Care)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience
* Working with large and complex data sets and ability to quality check and manage imperfect data in a politically sensitive and complex environment.
* Experience of using elements of the MS BI stack (SharePoint, SSMS, SSRS Power BI, Tableau etc.)
* In depth and thorough specialist knowledge about the benefits that can be obtained from information systems.
* Experience of informatics including data modelling and testing within the NHS or healthcare sectors.
Skills and knowledge
* Proven high level experience of MS Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint). Knowledge of DAX.
* Attention to detail with ability to analyse, extract and interpret information in order to recommend appropriate course of action.
* Able to work independently or as part of a team.
* Able to manage own workload without supervision, take on unscheduled tasks, work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines.
* Able to present complex information to a wide range of audiences both verbally and electronically (e.g. charts, graphs, reports, scorecards, tables, dashboards etc.)
* Able to keep accurate electronic and manual records at all times, including audit trail.
* Excellent verbal, written and personal communication skills.
* Knowledge of NHS Information Governance, data flows and the Data Access Request Service (DARS) process.
* An understanding of data security and confidentiality issues including the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality regulations.
