Overview
Land Science is a growing multidisciplinary consultancy specialising in ground investigations for geotechnical and geo-environmental projects. We work on a variety of sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure. As we continue to expand our capabilities, we’re seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our senior management team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping our technical direction, developing new client relationships, and growing our service offerings. You will also have the chance to represent the company at industry events, seminars, and technical panels. You’ll work alongside a diverse team of engineers, geologists, and scientists on projects ranging from small residential investigations to large contracts over £100K. We strive to innovate in our approach, focusing on efficiency, client experience, and expanding our in-house capabilities, including laboratory services and site-based consultancy offerings.
Duties
1. Lead and manage all geotechnical aspects of the business, from planning to project delivery.
2. Be a key member of the senior management team, shaping strategy, capabilities, and systems.
3. Develop and diversify the business across new client sectors and services.
4. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support for project teams.
5. Engage with clients on scoping, pricing, and initiating ground investigations.
6. Manage the delivery of ground investigation projects, ensuring they are on time, on budget, and meet client expectations.
7. Prepare and review both factual and interpretive reports.
8. Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, and seminars.
Requirements
1. 8+ years geotechnical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in UK ground investigations.
2. Chartered status (or working towards it) with a relevant body.
3. Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
4. Detailed knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes.
5. Proven experience working with clients and regulators.
6. Strong interpersonal skills with an eye for detail and problem-solving.
7. Full manual driving license.
8. Proficiency in geotechnical software and performing geotechnical calculations.
9. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
10. Knowledge of project management principles.
11. Proven interpretive report writing skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £38,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
