What's involved with this role: Interim PT Principal Generalist Solicitor Litigation Job Ref: NW Leicestershire 5263559 Pay Rate: up to £73.33 per hour PAYE max Hours per week: 18 Tuesday – Thursday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3 months City: COALVILLE Lead and supervise the Contentious Team, providing you with proactive legal advice as the Council's lead lawyer in contentious law. This includes preparing for and representing in criminal (regulatory enforcement, licensing, fraud) and civil (housing management, anti-social behavior) court proceedings. Additionally, you will instruct external solicitors and counsel on Civil and Criminal matters, including High Court cases. Key Responsibilities: Carry out all aspects of Contentious work. Line manage a team- supervise, coach and support direct reports Attend Court Use electronic file systems (currently OMS & moving to IKEN in April 2025) Liaise with clients (across council services) Liaise with Councillors Undertake own research and progress own caseload Key requirements: Qualified Solicitor who holds or is eligible to hold a Solicitors practicing certificate Sound Litigation experience. Local authority experience Line management & supervision experience Recent experience in at least one (1) of the following areas: Local authority enforcement/prosecutions (planning, food hygiene, H&S, HMOs, etc) Housing management Licensing including taxi and private hire, Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005 Anti-social behaviour (Injunctions, PSPOs, etc) Commercial dispute resolution Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to represent organisations effectively in court and provide advice and guidance to others as and when required.
