Job Title: Mental Health Support Worker
Location: Milton Keynes (Schools and Community Locations)
Employment Type: Part-time, 2.5 days per week
Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 per annum (pro rata)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Support Worker to deliver mental health interventions and support services to Children & Young People (CYP) in Milton Keynes. This role will focus on providing early interventions and ongoing support to at-risk CYPs, working closely with schools, youth services, and community organizations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people by delivering targeted interventions and one-on-one support.
Key Responsibilities:
* Mental Health Intervention Delivery:
* Provide one-on-one and group mental health support sessions for CYPs at risk of or already involved in the criminal justice system.
* Facilitate early intervention programs aimed at improving emotional wellbeing and addressing mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges.
* Tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of each CYP, using evidence-based practices to promote mental and emotional health.
* Support & Case Management:
* Provide individualized support to CYPs, developing tailored care plans to address their specific needs and goals.
* Work collaboratively with schools, youth services, and community organizations to ensure a holistic approach to mental health care.
* Manage a small caseload of CYPs, ensuring regular contact and follow-up to monitor progress and adjust support strategies as needed.
* Referral & Partnership Engagement:
* Work with educational professionals, youth offending teams (YOTs), and social services to manage referrals and identify CYPs who would benefit from early intervention services.
* Act as a liaison between schools, families, and mental health services, ensuring clear communication and coordination of care.
* Safeguarding & Risk Management:
* Identify and report safeguarding concerns in line with organizational policies and local authority regulations.
* Conduct risk assessments to determine the level of care and support required for each CYP and ensure that interventions are appropriate and safe.
* Documentation & Reporting:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sessions, progress notes, and care plans for each CYP in line with data protection guidelines.
* Provide regular reports on outcomes, challenges, and improvements in the CYPs’ mental health to supervisors and relevant stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
* Proven experience delivering mental health interventions or support services to children and young people, particularly within school or community settings.
* A strong understanding of the mental health challenges faced by at-risk CYPs, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral issues.
* Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including schools, youth offending teams, and social services.
* Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures and experience in managing safeguarding concerns.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with CYPs, families, and professional partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
* A relevant degree or professional qualification in Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
* Experience working within the criminal justice system or with at-risk youth is a strong advantage.
* Training in trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, or other relevant intervention techniques.
Working Conditions:
This role requires working in schools and community settings across Milton Keynes. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, as the role may involve travel between various locations. This is a part-time position of 2.5 days per week, with regular support and supervision provided. Ongoing training and professional development will be offered to ensure that the Mental Health Support Worker can deliver the highest quality care to CYPs.
