Specialist Occupational Therapist - Watford
JOB PURPOSE - Monday - Friday 8:00-16:00 - start and finish times can be flexible. This is a broad summary of the role detailing key areas of operation and responsibilities - further detail will be provided in the Main Duties and Responsibilities section below, which provides more granular detail.
The post holder will be responsible for:
1. Provision of Occupational Therapy in our Rehabilitation Beds ensuring that services support the discharge of patients by providing specialist assessment and treatment.
2. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the rehabilitation units to facilitate timely assessment and coordinated discharge planning as required.
3. Working within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promoting best practice and undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner including assessing and treating own caseload of patients/clients and maintaining professional documentation.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintain communication links with other disciplines and agencies by attending operational meetings and through verbal and written recording and reporting.
2. Maintain effective communication by attending necessary multidisciplinary team meetings.
3. Communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure safe discharge planning.
4. Advise and instruct relatives, carers and other professionals as appropriate.
5. Maintain concise and accurate reports following all departmental standards and procedures. This will also include the use of electronic patient records using the System One informatics system where appropriate and recording outcome measures.

Job responsibilities
1. Assess the functional needs of patients providing intervention plans based on protocols and pathways aimed at improving function and reducing the impact of disability, working with clients to identify OT goals as part of their overall care plan.
2. Complete OT specific assessments including those required to assess cognition, sensory, visual and postural needs, including planning and carrying out suitable treatment plans.
3. Independently manage a delegated caseload of straightforward and complex cases demonstrating a high level of problem solving, clinical reasoning skills, and professional judgement.
4. Select and apply specific Occupational Therapy assessments addressing occupational performance and skills deficits enabling clients in the areas of productivity, self-maintenance, and leisure.
5. Carry out and record comprehensive assessments within the ward/therapy department and home environment.
6. Prescribe and monitor equipment, adaptations, and assistive technology to improve or maintain independence.
Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current UK AHP HCPC registration
* Post graduate degree in relevant area
Experience
* Post registration as an occupational therapist working with older adults, falls prevention
* Supervising staff/students
* Working in a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience working in a wide range of specialist services e.g. falls services, wheelchair services, neurology, and orthopaedics
* Leading appraisals
* Experience of implementing evidence-based care and developing others to do so.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£16.45 to £20.06 an hour. Weekly pay will include: Basic pay + HCAS + 12.07% Holiday pay.
