This is a Trust Grade post to work alongside our existing Specialist Trainees in Oncology for a fixed term of 12 months. The successful candidate will join the existing consultants and trainees in providing a full and comprehensive Oncology service across Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire.
The Oncology Department offers a comprehensive service to patients including chemotherapy, targeted agents, complex IMRT and stereotactic treatments. The treatment of all cancers is becoming increasingly complex with an increase in the options of radiotherapy and systemic therapies available.
This post does not have educational approval but if appropriate, you would be supported to develop your CV towards applying for an oncology training number. It would also suit those who would like some additional experience in Oncology, working in a supportive department.
Main duties of the job
The post will have a formal induction process to familiarise you with the hospital, department and specialty. If it is appropriate, this will include an introduction to safe laboratory practice and basic diagnostic skills relating to laboratory work such as morphology and interpretation of coagulation tests and blood transfusion medicine. This would be necessary if you are to join the middle grade on-call rota; there will be opportunities to join the FY/CMT rota for the department if this would be more suitable. Further induction requirements will be assessed on an individual's previous experience and educational needs.
The successful candidate would join existing team members in providing outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiotherapy treatments. They would help ensure ward cover at a senior level including work on the admissions unit. There would also be the opportunity to get involved in basic radiotherapy planning. This role may require on-call commitments and will be discussed at the time of appointment.
APPOINTMENT
The appointment will be whole time on a fixed term contract. If the appointed candidate is unable for personal reasons to work whole time, they will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with colleagues.
