Civil Engineer Graduate Programme 2025 (Electricity Distribution) - Wales
About the role
We’re National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales. Serving communities of more than 8 million people, our expert teams deliver heat, light and power for homes and businesses.
The Major Projects team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the 132kV electricity network, comprising overhead lines, underground cables and substations. Major Projects also delivers National Grid’s asset replacement programme, network reinforcement and new connections from 11kV to 132kV.
You will be based at one of our Project Teams offices, but as the majority of work is carried out on site, a significant proportion of your time will be spent on site across the whole of the dedicated distribution licence area.
The role is technical, requiring excellent communication with a broad range of colleagues and contractors. Excellent time and work management skills are required to deliver projects safely, on time, on budget and to a high standard.
Some of your accountabilities may include:
* Provision of specialist civil services to own and other teams.
* Organisation and financial monitoring of individual tasks.
* Minimising risk to the security of the distribution network.
* Identify training needs of own and other team members and provide training in civil activities.
* Identify opportunities for improvement in performance and implement or recommend the change.
What you'll need to apply
You'll need to achieve a minimum 2:2 in an Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, Sciences or Data Sciences degree discipline. It doesn’t matter when you graduated or if you are currently working towards your qualification. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.
Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you'll need to have a full valid UK driving license that allows you to drive in the UK.
You’ll need flexibility to travel within role and throughout your rotations as required.
To be eligible to apply for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they will have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the graduate programme.
Location
This role is based in Swansea offering flexible hybrid working, where possible.

* £2,000 bonus, once joined and started on programme
