CNC Machine Shop Team Leader
Location: Draycott, Derbyshire
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to be part of a team that designs, manufactures, and builds state-of-the-art machinery, we are seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Section Team Leader to manage our growing machine shop team. This role involves programming, setting, and operating machining centres to produce high-quality parts to specification, as well as leading the department to achieve production goals. Working within our busy Draycott workshop, you'll program with Mastercam CAD/CAM software, set up Haas, Doosan, and Star machines, and run high-quality parts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interpreting technical drawings to produce parts accurately to specification
2. Operating multiple machines where feasible to maximize efficiency
3. Collaborating with the Mechanical Design Team to optimize part costs, complexity, tooling, and machining time
4. Implementing productivity improvements to enhance output
5. Supervising shop floor activities across 10 machining centres and coordinating with supporting departments
As a CNC Section Team Leader, you will play a critical role in our Operational Management Team, providing leadership in production, continuous improvement, and planning.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Providing support to the Milling and Turning sections
2. Managing tooling levels and specifying new tooling as needed
3. Ensuring coolant quality and safety with regular testing
4. Coordinating with the Production Planner to prioritize machining orders for efficient operations
5. Fostering a continuous improvement culture within the department
6. Maximizing machine efficiency and utilization
7. Upholding company quality standards and procedures
8. Training and developing new and existing team members
9. Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental requirements
10. Addressing departmental issues through corrective action
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
1. Relevant engineering qualification (preferred)
2. Minimum of 2 years' experience in CNC Milling and CNC Turning (essential)
3. Experience in offline or partial offline programming with CAD/CAM software, including Mastercam (essential)
4. Proficiency in setting and operating CNC vertical machining centres and lathe centres
5. Experience with Star sliding head machines
6. Familiarity with Haas control systems (training provided)
7. Strong organizational, management, and planning skills
8. Excellent communication skills at all levels
