Pembroke House is a purpose-built care home for veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Gillingham, Kent that was converted from an orphanage in 1952. We have been serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their dependants for 70 years. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. It has a ‘family-run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close-knit team making it a unique and very special place to work.
The Job Role
We are now recruiting for a Housekeeper (Maternity cover) to join our staff at Pembroke House. Reporting to the Housekeeper Supervisor, this role provides high standards of cleanliness throughout the home and the day-to-day delivery of excellence in Infection Control.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
1. To ensure high levels of cleanliness throughout the home in accordance with cleaning schedules produced by the housekeeping supervisor.
2. To ensure compliance with IPC guidance.
3. Ensure to remain in date for all mandatory training.
4. To deep clean cabins after a resident has departed ready for the next admission.
5. Ensure that we are compliant with returning laundry back to the residents, clean dry and ironed, within the stated time frame.
6. Ensure that the home is compliant with health and safety precautions such as ensuring walkways are clear of clutter.
7. Identify and report any maintenance issues or repairs needed within the home such as leaky faucets, broken appliances, or damaged furniture.
8. Arrange items in an orderly manner, ensuring that everything has a designated place. Declutter spaces by organising belongings and disposing of unnecessary items. Maintain storage areas in a tidy and efficient manner.
9. Monitor supplies of cleaning products and PPE and report to the housekeeping supervisor if something requires re-ordering with enough time that the home will not run out.
10. Communicate with residents ensuring that their preferences are adhered to where practicable.
This role would suit a person who shows attention to detail, and with an outgoing personality who would engage with the residents. Experience in this type of work is beneficial but not exclusive.
