An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term contract or secondment for an experienced Healthcare Scientist/ practitioner to join the team in the Sleep Service, Trafford General Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
The role is to support the sleep service in its delivery of a high-quality service both in the main sleep service and at our Community Diagnostic Centre based at Withington Community Hospital.
The Sleep Service is a modern dynamic unit servicing a large area of the North West. It has a CPAP user base of over 8,000 patients and provides a wide range of services including diagnosis and treatment of non-respiratory sleep disorders. It is actively involved in the teaching of students on the PTP and STP courses at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Main duties of the job
The position will involve:
1. Performing, analysing and reporting on in-patient and outpatient sleep studies (including respiratory polygraphy, full video polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing and actigraphy).
2. Initiating treatment with CPAP and the follow-up of these patients using agreed protocols in both face-to-face and telephone clinics.
3. Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.
The service encourages and supports flexible working but the successful applicant will be expected to cover evening shifts on a rotating roster.
The successful applicant will also be expected to travel to work at either Trafford General Hospital, or the Community Diagnostic Centre based at Withington Community Hospital (WTWA) as service demands require.
