About the Role

As a Design Manager, you will be at the heart of the Civil Works Programme (CWP), overseeing the technical design process for one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in the UK. You will lead the end-to-end design, from defining requirements to ensuring successful delivery within budget and schedule.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a leadership role, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and engage with key stakeholders across the project to deliver world-class solutions that will support the UK’s energy transition for decades to come.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the definition and validation of technical requirements and specifications in collaboration with various technical stakeholders.
* Manage and coordinate the progress of design changes, ensuring they are efficiently addressed and aligned with the overall project timeline.
* Oversee the technical assurance process, ensuring design quality meets the required standards and integrates seamlessly with the broader project.
* Coordinate all design deliverables, ensuring full integration and alignment within a 3D environment.
* Manage technical risks and their impact on cost and schedule, collaborating with the Engineering & Technical Project Manager.
* Work closely with internal and external teams to ensure compliance with design and safety regulations, particularly within the CDM framework.
* Lead a team of Project Engineers and ensure effective project delivery in line with the Integrated Work Schedule (IWS).
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Solid experience in ground engineering (earthworks, drainage, foundations, pavements, etc.) and multi-disciplinary design management.
* Proven experience leading technical teams and managing complex design phases from concept through to construction.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences from technical teams to senior management.
* Strong knowledge of UK design standards and the ability to drive design integration and delivery.
Desirable:
* Experience within the nuclear sector, particularly in the design of safety-critical structures and systems.
* Background in the design and delivery of large, complex projects, particularly nuclear infrastructure.
Qualifications:
* Essential:
* Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
* Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE) or working towards it.
* Desirable:
* Experience in the technical leadership of large and complex projects (e.g., nuclear, energy infrastructure).
