Exciting opportunity to join a service that is seeking to develop and strengthen ERCP nursing workforce as a single managed service in MFT.
The post holder will co-ordinate and organise the inpatient and outpatient referrals for ERCP, providing nursing expert support, information, and advice to patients and their families, relatives, and carers. The post holder will facilitate communication and act as liaison between the referrer, MDT, clinicians, ward staff, and endoscopy unit staff.
The individual will develop and maintain safe pathways for patients who require Endoscopy Procedures on GA/Deep Sedation lists, ensuring that the patients have attended for pre-operative/anaesthetic assessment.
To facilitate the safe, efficient, and optimal use of ERCP sessions, the post holder is expected to provide nurse-led consent for inpatients and outpatients where appropriate.
You will be based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, though you may be required to work across sites as part of a Single Managed Service. An ability to work autonomously, be adaptable, respond quickly, and balance competing demands is essential.
Of course, this means you will have the ability to use your own initiative.
Main duties of the job
You will possess excellent communication skills and be able to balance competing demands, being the person that holds it all together in a calm and confident manner. You will lead the role in coordinating the ERCP referral waiting list for endoscopic examination following medically agreed protocols and criteria supporting the prioritisation. Attention to detail is key; the post holder will be responsible for stent register maintenance and ensuring that follow procedures are planned.
You will liaise with all members of the MDT, facilitate teaching of ward staff, patients, families, and carers on all aspects of HPB disease and ERCP. You will also be expected, in conjunction with the audit team, to record data, compile results, and present them to relevant members of the MDT. You must be a dynamic, flexible individual with advanced IT, administrative, and organisational skills. Ideally, you should have a minimum of three to four years of experience in Endoscopy nursing and have shown a keen interest in developing your clinical skills and knowledge. Most of all, you will need to be kind and caring to support patients and loved ones at times of anxiety and worry and be able to advocate for your patient.
