As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in building and growing teams. This role suits someone who is passionate about the integration of environmental input within the Planning process as a Chartered Town Planner and forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.

With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and defence projects, mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects, as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK and worldwide.
You will also be responsible for the following:
1. Working as part of the Leadership, responsible for recruitment, growth, actively overseeing bidding and project delivery, and leading on some key Clients.
2. Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes.
3. Supporting business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions, and through involvement with key clients.
4. Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building new contacts.
5. Actively engaging in key client relationships, leading by example, creating cross-selling opportunities for the wider business.
6. Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
7. Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
2. Experience across a range of project types.
3. Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
4. Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
5. Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
6. Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
7. Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
8. A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work.
9. Experience in the delivery of DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills.
