An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and dedicated Sexual Health Nurse to join our nurse practitioner team within our integrated sexual health service. If you are passionate about sexual health, eager to grow as both a clinical leader and practitioner, and committed to advancing nursing practice development, we would love to hear from you.
In this role, you will deliver expert nursing care in sexual health and contraceptive services, offer clinical leadership within the nursing and multidisciplinary team (MDT), and collaborate with the Matron and Senior Sister to develop and maintain high standards of nurse-delivered care. You will also lead initiatives to ensure an exceptional patient experience while contributing to the ongoing development of nursing practice.
To succeed, you will need significant clinical experience in sexual health at a Band 6 level, as well as a qualification in contraceptive care and competence in the insertion/removal of contraceptive implants. Competence in IUD insertion and non-medical prescribing is desirable, or a willingness to undertake training. The ability to improve quality and patient satisfaction, along with a well-organized and resilient approach to a busy and diverse clinical service, will be essential for success in this role.

Main duties of the job
* To assist in the delivery of an expert specialist nursing service for people requiring Reproductive & Sexual Health Services.
* Demonstrate advanced knowledge of STI treatment and contraception to utilise advanced knowledge and skills and undertake procedures and practices such as bimanual examination, proctoscopy, contraceptive implant insertion and removal, IUD insertion and removal, and specialist follow-up clinics.
* To maintain primary responsibility for ensuring the department provides a progressive learning environment for all grades of qualified and unqualified nursing.
* To support with statutory and mandatory training as required to ensure compliance within the department.
* To promote and facilitate evidence-based practice and clinical audit within the Trust, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans.
* To work collaboratively with other MDTs at Denmark Hill or Beckenham Beacon sites where care needs require.
* To actively participate in education events provided by the trust and primary care sector.
* To act as the education and training nursing lead for the Reproductive Sexual Health department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To assist in the delivery of an expert specialist nursing service for people requiring Reproductive & Sexual Health Services.
* To provide specialist nursing advice, clinical assessment and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through treatment in line with departmental guidelines.
* To be highly visible, accessible, and approachable to staff, patients, and the public to ensure that open and honest communication channels are created and sustained.
* Use specialist knowledge and skills for assessing and interpreting complex issues across a wide variety of disciplines, providing advice in the development of nursing standards and guidelines for patient care.
* To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care, assessing health-related and holistic needs of patients, their families, and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care including partner notification.
* Proactive Management of Reproductive and sexual health caseload.
* Demonstrate advanced knowledge of STI treatment and contraception.
* To utilise advanced knowledge and skills and undertake procedures and practices such as bimanual examination, proctoscopy, contraceptive implant insertion and removal, IUD insertion and removal, cervical cytology, and specialist follow-up clinics.
* Initiating and interpreting tests and investigations, on-going monitoring.
* Making and receiving referrals based on the needs assessment of patients.
* Develop practice to be able to deliver nurse-led clinics supporting patients requiring RSH service and needs.
* Support the team and organisation in delivering innovative services to support patient access to RSH.
* Assessing and meeting patients on-going care, health and wellbeing needs and develop a care plan and action referrals as a result.
* Using data to identify high-risk individuals and groups and to ensure that services meet their needs.
* Ensuring clear documentation in the patient’s records of all significant consultations in accordance with Best Records Keeping Guidance.
* Identify educational needs for patients and/or carers with regard to the management of their sexual health & wellbeing.
* Ensure all patients receive appropriate follow-up and that relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment and care.
* Support patients with decision making about their care or treatment, ensuring shared decision making.
* To follow-up patients as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their care and treatment throughout their pathway of care.
* To deliver a seamless service through the development of Multidisciplinary team processes and communication.
* To work collaboratively with other MDTs at Denmark Hill or Beckenham Beacon sites where care needs require.
* To participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance both the continuity and standard of specialist care whilst ensuring equity of access to the service.
* To participate in the process of operational policies and review annually in accordance with national standards.
* Review and update clinical information offered to patients every two years.
* To ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols.
* Provide support and education to patients and their families.
* To work with the MDT to develop, implement and evaluate integrated care pathways and systems of MDT documentation.
* To actively involve service users in providing feedback of their experience of the current service and suggestions for improvements.
* To supply and administer medicines in accordance with Patient Group directions or as an Independent Prescriber if appropriate.
* To act as a patient advocate when appropriate, ensuring respect for patient confidentiality, privacy, and cultural/ethnic background.
* To liaise with local community, primary care, and voluntary organisations to develop existing services for clients and carers.
* To develop and co-ordinate planned educational programmes and opportunities for all multidisciplinary nursing staff within the care group.
* To advise in relation to educational opportunities and assist nurses and HCAs in developing themselves in accordance with their personal development plan and/or appraisal objectives.
* To ensure that Training Needs Analyses are undertaken and agreed teaching programmes implemented in line with Trust and national objectives.
* Lead on the drug assessment programme for midwifery in collaboration with relevant members of the education team.
* To support mentors/supervisors/assessors in their role, ensuring that learning opportunities are effectively utilised. Ensure student nurses are allocated an assessor and supervisor, and that a training programme is created and maintained.

Experience
* Clinical experience at Band 6 (or equivalent) with Integrated Sexual Health
