Job Description
Accountable for management of all general trade compliance matters for the UK business including all aspects of export controls and customs management based on legal regulations.
To provide compliance expertise to product and business development to enable competitive export growth.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Accountable for management of all general trade compliance matters for the UK business.
* Accountable for ensuring all trade (export and import) policies and procedures for the UK business.
* Main contact for regular communication to UK export and customs authorities e.g. HMRC, ECJU & UK MOD.
* Accountability for the management of all licence applications (via SPIRE & LITE. Approving documentation, MODF680 & MODF1686 applications).
* Development and maintain systems used in the process of UK business import and export data activities. Accountable for ensuring all data are up to date and compliant with UK regulations.
* Create, maintain and update documentation created for, and available to, the UK Order Management team.
* Remain up to date with changes to UK and international regulatory requirements and ensuring changes are reflected in UK business processes.
* Ownership of the UK business compliance improvement programme.
* Provide trade management expertise to attend Program and Business Opportunity Reviews (bids/tenders).
* UK business responsibility for preparing, planning and potentially delivering key stakeholder training on general export compliance and customs regulations.
* Management of internal/external Audits on processes. Management of Government Audit Visits. Management of Travel and Visits Request Forms. Support audit related requirements as needed.
* Ensure Compliance for US ITAR products manufactured on site and related license requirements such as MLA/TAA.
* Applying for US re-export licenses where required via BIS SNAP-R system.
* Give trade management guidance to UK business General Management on export control and customs matters.
* Work in collaboration with EMEA regional and global team to ensure harmonized best practice export control and customs management.
* Main point of contact for members of Smiths Group’s International Trade Compliance for all export control and customs matters.
* Accountability for export classification and HTS classification determinations for current and future products and technology
* Represent the trade compliance function in the ISECB forum (Information Security and Export Control Board).
* Responsible for annual licence reporting to ECJU.
Qualifications
* Highly Knowledgeable in UK Government Export regulations
* Knowledge of US regulations e.g. ITAR and EAR
* Working knowledge of SAP and specifically of GTS system
* Self-motivation and able to assume responsibility and work on own initiative.
* Analytical and thorough approach to problem solving.
* Flexibility to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
* Ability to work to challenging deadlines; excellent organizational and planning skills.
* Excellent attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
* Experienced and confident in dealing with staff at all levels, able to develop good working relationships with internal and external stake holders.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance.
