We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Senior Clinical Fellow (equivalent to specialty doctor ST3+ grade) who will become an integral part of our orthogeriatric team. This will be a full-time position, Monday to Friday, without on calls. The orthogeriatric department at Wexham Park Hospital is a developing department, known for the very good quality of the care delivered to the elderly patients admitted with neck of femur fracture.
Main duties of the job
Our orthogeriatric team is led by a Consultant Orthogeriatrician and supported by two junior clinical fellows and one GP trainee. The post will provide an opportunity to develop the clinical and leadership skills necessary to manage frail older people, admitted under the orthopaedic and orthogeriatric team. The post-holder will be supported and supervised by the Consultant Orthogeriatrician. This post does not include on-call commitments however, there may be the opportunity to include this in the job plan if requested.
Job responsibilities
* Conduct daily ward rounds of the patients over 60 years admitted with diagnoses of neck of femur, distal femur or femoral periprosthetic fracture with supervision as required from the consultant orthogeriatrician.
* Work closely with the orthopaedic and anaesthetic teams for the optimization of complex patients in the pre-operative phase and for the management of acute medical complications in the post-operative phase.
* Provide medical advice, supervision and teaching to resident doctors on the orthopedic ward.
* In carrying out his/her duties, the appropriate appointee will make himself/herself available to confer with patients relatives, if required, and to discuss DNACPR and ceilings of care.
* Take an active role in clinical audit, teaching and orthogeriatric service development.

* Evidence of at least 1 year experience in general internal medicine
* Evidence of special interest in geriatric medicine with at least 6 months
* Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
Desirable
* Experience working in orthogeriatric medicine
* Evidence of involvement in service improvement associated with audit and QIP
* Experience of delivering teaching
