Senior Nuclear Safety Assessor
RPS Risk have opportunities available for a Senior Nuclear Safety Assessor to join our Health, Safety & Risk business. We are flexible on location.
The RPS Risk team has been a leading provider of nuclear safety and risk consultancy services to clients in the UK for over 30 years. We provide core radiological safety assessment services supported with in-house specialist capabilities in Criticality safety, Radiological Shielding assessment, Human Factors, Nuclear Fire, and Peer Review from our team of 50 staff. This capability is complemented by a growing Fire (conventional) and Process Safety section providing services across a range of sectors.
Due to the nature of the work, all selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.
The Role:
As a Senior Nuclear Safety Assessor, you will be responsible for the delivery of nuclear safety projects and tasks, ensuring they are on budget and meeting the client's satisfaction while also taking the technical lead in the preparation of nuclear safety cases and supporting documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Leading hazard identification workshops, e.g. HAZOP.
2. Use of Claims/Arguments/Evidence techniques or other similar tools to clearly articulate safety case arguments.
3. Liaison with engineering, plant operators, and other specialist safety disciplines, e.g. Human Factors, Fire, Criticality, Radiological Shielding, Environmental, to present coherent and comprehensive safety cases.
4. Maintaining and developing lasting relationships with clients.
5. Managing teams of consultants to support project delivery.
6. Providing technical guidance and mentoring for more junior team members.
7. Recognising opportunities for business and service development.
8. Supporting business and service development.
Your skills and experience:
1. You will be a skilled and experienced nuclear safety consultant with excellent report writing skills and mentoring abilities.
2. Good expertise in nuclear safety techniques.
3. Safety Case production and management for all stages of the plant lifecycle from concept design to decommissioning, hazard identification, fault analysis, Design Basis Accident (DBA) assessment, Barrier Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), radiological consequence assessment, development of safety functional requirements, ALARP assessment.
4. Good knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards.
5. A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, e.g. Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control/ Electrical Engineering.
6. Sufficient and appropriate post-graduate relevant experience.
7. Leadership skills.
8. Excellent customer service manner with strong listening and interpersonal skills.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
10. Flexible in approach to support effective delivery.
