We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Scrum Master to join our fast-paced software engineering team and play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of agility, innovation and delivering value.
In this role, you will work with one or more of our value stream agile teams in the planning, execution and delivery of key initiatives, in alignment with business priorities. While this is an individual contributor role, you will lead from a position of influence, ensuring team members live agile values and principles and follow agreed processes and behaviors.
Building strong relationships across the organisation to promote cross-functional, cross-value stream collaboration to drive effective value delivery, you will facilitate agile events and provide coaching or mentoring where required.
You will be committed to continuous improvement, remaining flexible and open to opportunities to guide teams in improving their working practices whilst also actively supporting the refinement of Agile practices across IDBS.
What we’ll get you doing:
1. Lead and coach one or more agile teams to deliver high-quality software products, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous feedback. Being a servant leader, providing support while challenging teams to excel & facilitate cross-team coordination, aligning efforts toward strategic business goals.
2. Coach team members on Agile and Lean best practices and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.), while fostering a high-performing, self-organizing team culture. Partnering with Product Owners, Engineering Managers and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate refinement, prioritization and execution of deliverables.
3. Facilitate agile events, at the individual team (e.g. daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, planning, reviews and retrospectives) and program level (e.g. PI planning preparation, Big Room planning, end of PI reviews and retrospectives).
4. Identify, manage and resolve impediments, at both the team and program level. Measure and report on Agile delivery metrics, identify and surface potential issues early, using insights to optimize team performance.
5. Drive continuous improvement by identifying and addressing inefficiencies, championing Agile and Lean adoption across the organization, influencing leadership on practices.
Here is what success in this role looks like:
1. Strong experience of leveraging Agile and Lean values and principles to successfully deliver value via complex software products / projects, including the practical application of Scrum as a Scrum Master (or similar). Knowledge of other frameworks such as Kanban, SAFe, LeSS or Nexus.
2. Ability to lead by example within self-organizing team(s); including shielding the team(s) from outside interference, managing stakeholder expectations on their behalf or challenging them to work differently.
3. Excellent facilitation and coaching skills - facilitating team or program events and coaching or mentoring colleagues where gaps in knowledge or opportunities for improvement are identified. Ability to define, analyze and optimize Agile delivery metrics; guiding team(s) on appropriate use of tools to plan, visualize progress & identify opportunities for improvement in their working practices.
4. Effective communication skills when collaborating with various stakeholders (e.g. internal & external customers, technical & non-technical, peers & senior leadership) and experience using Agile project management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
5. Over 5 years of practical experience as a Scrum Master where this is your current, primary role. Must hold an active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification from Scrum Alliance and have at least 2 years of current, practical experience in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment. An active Certified SAFe Program Consultant certification from Scaled Agile Framework is highly desirable.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
1. Working within the guidelines and policies of a highly regulated environment.
2. Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
3. Hold relevant certification – Professional Scrum Master (PSM I or II) and Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM).
