At their new, purpose-built manufacturing facility in East Sussex, they have entered an exciting new phase in their development as they embark on an ambitious expansion programme.
Our client is recruiting for a Senior Product Engineer to join their team, ensuring products are delivered on time, to specification, and within budget while adhering to the best DFMA principles.
Senior Product Engineer - The Role:
1. Be an integral part of the Engineering team ensuring products are delivered on time, to specification, and within budget.
2. Provide manufacturing engineering support for the design and development team and lead projects that reduce costs and improve quality.
Product Development
1. Maintain project management processes and deliver development projects on budget and on time.
2. Perform feasibility studies on selected NPIs.
3. Check detail drawings to BS 8888 (308).
4. Locate new and maintain existing supplier collaboration partners for product developments.
5. Create BOMs and planning sheets for new products & systems.
6. Ensure that all data is provided to Operations in the correct format.
7. Carry out FMEA.
Cost Reduction
1. Identify cost-out opportunities and define and deliver on projects.
2. Support sourcing and actively participate in in/outsourcing projects to improve profitability.
Technical Innovation and Competitive Position
1. Keep up to date with technical innovation in the UHV & manufacturing areas.
2. Understand competitive position and perform reverse engineering and benchmarking of competitive products.
Engineering Changes
1. Support the engineering change system in a timely and controlled manner.
2. Ensure up-to-date drawings are available in manufacturing.
3. Root cause engineering problems and seek to eliminate them.
Custom Design
1. Provide engineering support for quotations and technical inquiries.
2. Provide timely production engineering support for custom orders to agreed deadlines.
Quality
1. Identify and deliver on opportunities to improve quality through redesign/production engineering.
People and Budget
1. Assist in providing data on metrics for public display.
2. Provide technical support to other team members and help them check their work.
Communication
1. Ensure that the team is aware of current best practices for DFM.
2. Ensure that drawing numbers are allocated correctly and that the registers are maintained.
3. Liaise with department leaders to maintain open communication.
Senior Product Engineer - Essential Skills & Experience:
1. HNC/D in Mechanical and Production Engineering.
2. Mechanical Engineering Degree.
3. Experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
4. Ability to read technical drawings.
5. Root cause analysis experience.
6. Production Engineering of components and assemblies experience.
7. Experienced using Microsoft Office products.
8. Project costing & quotation experience.
9. Outgoing energetic personality.
10. Well organized and structured.
11. Passion for people and technology.
12. Good communicator across all engineering disciplines and levels of ability.
13. Able to manage own time effectively.
14. Ability to mentor other engineers.
15. Fluent in English.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
1. 10+ years in a similar role.
2. Experience of Microsoft Dynamics.
3. Ability to lead small teams.
