Brief Description
* Drainage Inspection and Assessment: Conducting regular inspections of drainage assets, including culverts and ditches, to identify blockages, damage, or wear, ensuring that drainage systems are functioning correctly and in line with required standards.
* Design and Installation: Designing and overseeing the installation or upgrade of drainage systems to improve water management across rail infrastructure, and ensuring drainage solutions are integrated with lineside vegetation management.
* Lineside and Vegetation Maintenance: Managing the maintenance of the railway lineside and vegetation, ensuring that vegetation does not obstruct drainage systems or rail infrastructure, and promoting healthy vegetation that supports the stability of the track.
* Maintenance and Planning: Developing and implementing maintenance schedules for drainage systems, lineside areas, and vegetation, to prevent flooding or water-related damage and to keep the rail corridor clear of obstructive plant growth.
* Leadership and Team Management: Leading and directing the Infrastructure Maintenance team to meet business and functional objectives, while ensuring the team's safety, competence, and engagement with their tasks.
* Safety and Compliance: Ensuring adherence to safety, assurance, compliance, performance, and business processes, and identifying and submitting non-compliances for approval when required.
* Problem Solving and Improvement: Investigating drainage and lineside issues, developing solutions to prevent disruptions to train services, and identifying and implementing improvements in safety, asset performance, reliability, and efficiency.
* Work Prioritization and Delivery: Managing the prioritization of drainage and vegetation management work, ensuring it aligns with planned schedules and delivery of maintenance and upgrades to plan.
* Resource Management: Developing annual maintenance, inspection, and testing programs, while managing resource levels to meet business requirements and ensure effective operation.
* Asset Handover: Managing the process for the handover and acceptance of assets that have been renewed, installed, or modified as part of projects, ensuring that drainage and vegetation management systems are integrated.
* Incident Management: Restoring normal operations after the completion of testing, investigation, or renewal programs and taking necessary actions for assets that have failed or need attention.
* Methodology Approval: Reviewing and approving method statements or plans for drainage, vegetation, and work activities, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
* Investigation and Reporting: Investigating accidents or incidents, particularly those related to drainage or vegetation, and reporting findings to prevent future issues and enhance safety.
* Safety Monitoring: Undertaking a program of safety tours, staff surveillance, and asset condition checks to ensure that drainage systems, vegetation management, and safety protocols are maintained at high standards.
Essential experience
* Relevant technical competence
* Experience in maintenance management, processes and techniques
* Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
* Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
* Knowledge of operational railway environment
* Knowledge of other functional disciplines
* IRSE Licence holder (Signalling only)
* Local Accident & Incident Investigation
* Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
Desirable
* Incorporated Engineer
* Membership of professional body

Drugs and Alcohol Standard:
All prospective candidates who have not been offered a conditional role by 16.01.2023 will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.
