£39,756 - £53,298 – the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Third Engineer to join the crew of the RRS Sir David Attenborough. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. You’ll be joining our close-knit team of the RRS Sir David Attenborough as it carries out scientific research across the polar regions. The ship is world-leading in its scientific capabilities and regularly carries out science trials across the world with a driven focus on the Antarctic regions.
Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop role-specific skills to complement your time on the ship. There will also be standard training provided that is specially developed for Polar travel.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out maintenance, managing specified tasks in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System, and assisting with other maintenance tasks under the direction of the Second Engineer.
* Fully utilising the Planned Maintenance System ensuring that all routine and non-routine tasks are correctly recorded to provide future benefit.
* Assuming special responsibility for the fuel injection equipment.
* Assuming responsibility for monitoring and management of all FW cooling systems, with appropriate record keeping.
