Job summary
The Pharmacy Department, based at Walton Hospital, are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacy Assistant, with experience of hospital or community pharmacy, to join our well-established Pharmacy and Medicines Management Team. This varied post provides a range of opportunities for a motivated experienced pharmacy assistant to utilise and expand on their current skills and experience within a diverse Community Trust.
Working pattern core hours:
5 day a week Monday - Friday between - 5pm
Full and part-time applications and flexible working hours up to 35 hours would be considered to the successful candidate/s appointed and to fit in with the core hours of the service.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Pharmacy Assistant role encompasses dispensing including controlled drugs, stock checks and ordering, audit data collection, deliveries, and the supply of stock medicines across Derbyshire.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a busy dispensary, knowledge of pharmacy dispensing systems and computerised stock control.
Good communication, interpersonal and computer skills, and the ability to prioritise work to meet the service needs are all required for the role. The ability to work as part of a team and be flexible regarding working practices and changes in routine, in order to provide an efficient, accurate and high quality pharmacy/medicines management service is also essential.
Once established in the role, there will be opportunities to supervise and support training of apprentices and new staff.
About us
The Pharmacy Team supports a variety of services across Derbyshire Community Health Services Trust (DCHST), which operate across approximately 8 community hospitals, 4 Urgent Treatment Centres, many clinics and health centres, and to patients in their own homes in Derbyshire, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.
To support service delivery the post holder will be required to travel across all Trust sites as part of their daily duties on a rotational basis, therefore a current driving licence and use of car, or the ability to visit other sites is essential.
The Pharmacy department are passionate about the development of our staff and you will have the support of the whole team, which consists of Pharmacy Assistant & Preregistration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprentices, Senior Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, a medicines management Service Coordinator and Support Officer. Within your 6 month probationary period you will be supported to complete the required DCHS Pharmacy competencies.
The department operates between and Monday to Friday, with the added benefit for staff of not opening on weekends or public holidays.

Job responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Pharmacy Technician Education and Training and the Principal Pharmacy Technician Team Manager and having extensive support from the dispensary team, your main duties will include, but are not exhaustive to:-
Being the first point of contact for stock requests and provide a stock topping up service to designated wards and departments.
Monitor stock levels and turnover in the pharmacy and in clinics, departments, and wards.
Assist in maintaining appropriate pharmacy stock levels in the pharmacy.
Accurately dispense medicines including controlled drugs.
Store medicines appropriately and participate in supporting the room temperature monitoring procedure, including the use of data loggers.
Monitor and maintain the cold chain on all medicines and vaccines.
Collect data for medicines storage audits, input results onto computer and share them with service staff.
Collect data for Health and Safety audits within the pharmacy department.
Participate in answering the pharmacy telephone and reception.
Comply with Trust Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
Support the review of department Standard Operating Procedures (local SOP's)
