Design Engineer- Roadway Job Description:
The Design Engineer- Roadway position will oversee project development, client relationship management, and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and interns. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in roadway engineering, specifically with a deep understanding of ALDOT guidelines and federal highway standards.
Design Engineer- Roadway Job Responsibilities:
1. Client Relationship Management: Lead efforts in building and maintaining strong relationships with ALDOT and other key stakeholders to support project success and business development.
2. Project Management: Oversee the design, bidding, and construction phases of roadway projects, ensuring compliance with ALDOT and FHWA guidelines and standards.
3. Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and interns. Provide technical guidance and leadership to help junior team members grow in their roles.
4. Quality Control & Assurance: Ensure all projects meet the company’s quality standards, technical requirements, and client expectations, with a focus on ALDOT standards.
5. Collaboration Across Disciplines: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including other engineers and offices, to maximize firm-wide knowledge and best practices in project execution.
6. Communication & Reporting: Coordinate the work of assigned team members, communicate progress to clients, and ensure timely and effective reporting on project status.
7. Financial & Project Goals: Oversee financial goals, budgets, and timelines for projects, ensuring adherence to company objectives.
8. Training & Professional Development: Develop and conduct professional training sessions for staff to enhance skills and knowledge across the team.
Design Engineer- Roadway Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
2. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alabama is required.
3. 10+ years of experience in roadway engineering, with a focus on ALDOT projects.
4. Extensive knowledge of ALDOT guidelines, specifications, and organizational structure.
5. Strong familiarity with federal roadway design standards, including the “Green Book”, MUTCD, and other FHWA publications.
6. Experience with MicroStation design platforms, particularly Open Roads.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate, mentor, and lead teams effectively.
8. Valid driver’s license, with the ability to travel occasionally to project sites.
9. Ability to manage projects and teams while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
10. Client-focused: Proven ability to manage client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and timely project delivery.
11. Leadership skills: Experience in supervising and guiding a team of engineers, ensuring high-quality project output.
12. Problem-solving aptitude: Strong decision-making capabilities and a meticulous approach to design and engineering challenges.
13. Industry expertise: In-depth knowledge of roadway design standards, ALDOT protocols, and effective project management techniques.
