Our client is looking for someone to join their team who needs to be competent in the management and compliance of manual handling both patient and inanimate loads and display screen activities, being up to speed in both areas of legislation with a proven track record of delivering on these areas. Healthcare experience is an advantage.
The key areas to cover are:
1. Risk Management: Supporting and advising on the completion of risk assessments, ensuring controls in place are suitable, providing advice on equipment, training in equipment use.
2. Audit, Monitor, Review: Ensuring policies are up to date and meet legal compliance, auditing risk assessment completion and compliance/application of training, policy audit.
3. Data Reporting: Bi-monthly reporting to the Health & Safety Committee and attending that group as the competent person in manual handling and ergonomics (DSE specific).
4. DSE Assessments: Undertaking specialist DSE assessments and training in equipment use/set up.
5. Record Keeping: Keeping records of all activities for audit trail.

Pay Rates: £19.80-£22.70 PAYE per hour; £22.20-£25.50 PAYE inclusive of holiday pay per hour (rates depending on skill and experience).

Summary: The post holder will act as the Trust's competent person in manual handling and ergonomics. You will support and ensure the Trust meets its legal duties in relation to manual handling and ergonomics through delivery of manual handling and display screen equipment policies and procedures. The post holder will be responsible for conducting all training activities related to manual handling, ensuring employees are compliant with statutory/mandatory requirements and that adequate training needs analysis and bespoke training solutions are undertaken. The role will also be responsible for triangulating data related to MSDs to identify hot spots and implement plans for improvement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Be the Trust's recognised competent person on matters relating to manual handling and ergonomics (clinical and non-clinical), demonstrating a working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, subject knowledge, and professional issues pertinent to the role.
2. Lead on delivery and implementation of policies and procedures in relation to manual handling and ergonomics, ensuring they are up to date with current legislation and practice, periodically reviewed, audited, and monitored for effectiveness.
3. Promote and develop a safety culture, delivering a strategy aimed at reducing musculoskeletal injuries within the Trust.
4. Manage and further develop the Trust's manual handling systems and processes to maintain the highest standards.
5. Advise and support managers and staff in risk identification, risk assessment, and risk reduction.
6. Support, develop, deliver, and evaluate practical and theoretical training in manual handling to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations.
7. Provide advice and guidance relating to manual handling within the area of responsibility and respond to patient referrals relating to complex handling cases.
8. Organise workload with minimal supervision.
9. Provide proactive and reactive advice and recommendations to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury.
10. Advise on and trial manual handling equipment to ensure access to suitable equipment.
11. Provide advice, support, and information on all manual handling and ergonomic issues to minimize risks.
12. Advise on safe working procedures and adapt training and handling techniques as needed.
13. Undertake regular reviews, including inspections and audits of manual handling management and report findings to relevant parties.
14. Advise the Trust Board, Committees, managers, and staff on relevant legislation and best practices.
15. Provide assurance to the Health & Safety Advisor and the Trust Health & Safety Committee regarding compliance with legislation and directives.
