Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics and Cardiac Imaging
About us
This post is based within Centre for Cardiovascular Imaging, part of the Clinical Science Research Group within the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS) with the main clinical base at Barts Heart Centre (BHC), St Bartholomew Hospital. BHC is a world-class institution that provides state of the art cardiovascular care to a population of six million people.
About the role
The post is funded for 18 months to develop and apply computational models that integrate proteomics, spatial transcriptomics, and clinical outcomes for patients undergoing valve surgery. This innovative project leverages advanced modelling and simulation techniques to unravel the complex interactions between molecular, cellular, and clinical data, ultimately aiming to improve patient care in cardiovascular interventions.
About you
The successful candidate will design and implement state-of-the-art computational frameworks that incorporate cell-level modelling focusing on electrophysiology, calcium handling, and contraction with clinical imaging data (CT and MRI). The role will involve using finite element solvers on high-performance computing (HPC) platforms, alongside emulators, Bayesian history matching, and sensitivity analysis to ensure robust and predictive models. Proficiency in Python is essential for developing data integration pipelines and simulation tools. The post is funded through an academic research grant awarded to UCL, from the British Heart Foundation, for 18-months, full-time equivalent.
