About the job Job summary 51 Squadron have a requirement for a Civilian Tool Issue Centre Manager within the forward Military Maintenance Organisation (MMO) at RAF Waddington. This role will encompass day to day management of the Tool Issue Centre ensuring the routine control (issue and return) of Hand Tools and Specialist Support Equipment and the issue / safe disposal of Fuel and Lubricant (F&L) products, whilst at all times maintaining control and custody of the complete inventory. Additional responsibilities will include assistance to the Squadron Deployed Availability Cell (DAC) in the provision of all tooling and F&L to meet deployed Sqn requirements. The role will have involve some shift work and has the potential for flexible working hours. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description Tool Issue Centre Manager will be responsible for the routine operation of the Tool Issue Centre and the day to day supervision of Tools Issue Centre operatives. They will have a wide range of supporting tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the Sqn. They will ensure daily, weekly and monthly checks are being carried out and recorded correctly. The typical supporting tasks are: Routine Management/Supervision of tool store operatives Replacement of unserviceable items Torque wrench testing Control of precision termination tools Routine maintenance of minor electrical items Husbandry of large consumable products Health and Safety at Work. You have the responsibility under the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 and other associated regulations to: Comply with all instructions and procedures installed to ensure safety at work, taking proper care of any equipment provided for your health, safety and welfare at work. Provide specialist advice as appropriate to your Line Manager in order to allow proper risk assessment to be made. Report all accidents, injuries and near-miss dangerous occurrences promptly to Line Management. You also have a duty to protect the environment and to preserve both your own safety and that of those you work with. You are to read, understand and comply with all environmental and safety orders and instructions, also the provisions of any risk assessments that apply to your work area/activities. Person specification Good interpersonal skills will be required as you will be interacting with Sqn technicians from AS1 through to typically shift Flight Sergeants. Routine interaction with Senior Engineering Management is also expected to discuss any issues within the Tool issue Centre. An ability to read and act on policy and technical information to facilitate replacement of tooling and understand higher level policy on the standard of tooling, marking / etching and general tool control procedures. Basic IT skills with an ability to utilise MS Word and Excel to assist with updating Tool Store Documentation / F&L Safety Data Sheet information as required. An ability to work independently is paramount as this role is typically staffed by a single individual at a time, albeit with support from other managerial staff.
