Could you be our new Chair of Trustees? Or could someone in your network be?
Norwich Historic Churches Trust (NHCT) is a small charitable company, formed 50 years ago to protect, preserve and find new uses for 18 decommissioned medieval churches. Built when Norwich was England’s second city and amongst its most significant cultural and heritage assets, today NHCT churches are home to arts venues, artists’ studios, circus schools, theatres, antiques centres and charities, remaining a vibrant part of Norwich’s cultural life and cityscape. We have a passionate and dedicated board of Trustees and are looking for someone to join as our Chair.
Role Responsibilities:
As the Chair of Trustees, you will:
1. Lead the Board and support the staff to develop and deliver NHCT’s vision, mission, and strategy.
2. Ensure the effective governance of the charity.
3. Support and constructively challenge the Board to work cohesively with the Head of Operations, Conservation and Heritage, and the staff team to achieve agreed objectives.
Qualifications:
Ideally, you will have:
1. A strong interest in medieval architecture and heritage buildings.
2. Previous charity Board experience.
3. A good understanding of current people and building management strategy, policies, and practice.
4. Experience of organisational development and fundraising.
NHCT values diversity and difference and wishes to represent the full diversity of our community in recruiting to the Board of Trustees. We encourage you to apply even if you feel you are stronger in some areas of the person specification than others, and believe that certain skills can be developed with training and/or over time.
If you are interested in the role, you are encouraged to contact our Recruitment Committee Chair for an informal discussion through the Trust’s Operations Coordinator, Rachael Eke on rachael.eke@norwich-churches.org. Rachael is also able to assist you if you have access requirements, such as requesting this information in large print.
Application is by CV and covering letter, to be emailed to Rachael Eke (rachael.eke@norwich-churches.org), by 27 January 2025. For the Recruitment pack, including a role description and person specification, please email NHCT at info@norwich-churches.org or download from NHCT’s website at https://www.nhct-norwich.org/current-vacancies/
