Summary of role
The Senior Electricity Designer is responsible for the design and review of electricity infrastructure projects within the Company’s portfolio of commercial and residential developments. This role involves ensuring that all designs and costing mechanisms are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timelines. The Senior Electricity Designer will also provide guidance and mentorship across the business, serving as a central point of expertise for all electricity infrastructure matters to ensure compliance with network owners’ standards and Company accreditations.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
General
Execute the Company’s electrical design functions, ensuring compliance with relevant Codes of Practice, as well as Company and industry standards.
Coordinate the electrical design process with other contracted utility services.
Produce electrical design variations in accordance with Company procedures and client requirements.
Review and approve designs created by the wider design team.
Participate in tendering and construction handover meetings to ensure the seamless transfer of information.
Develop training materials and provide support to enhance the electrical knowledge of team members across the business.
Review current processes and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Assist in maintaining the Company’s NERS accreditation and support efforts to expand the scope of accreditation.
Prepare full and budget quotations for the Company’s electrical projects, ensuring alignment with commercial procedures and client specifications.
Create high-level designs to support the Tendering Department.
Communicate effectively with key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Attend tendering and pre-start site meetings to offer technical support.
Complete both electronic and paper-based forms in accordance with Company procedures.
Support the resolution of health, safety, and environmental issues, as well as engineering, customer satisfaction, and product quality concerns.
Participate in process management and continuous improvement reviews.
Ensure compliance with the Company’s Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards and interact with internal systems to maintain compliance with legislative and industry requirements.

Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and relevant electrical design software is required.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate written communications throughout the enquiry and design lifecycle.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Proven experience in the design of electrical networks up to 11kV.
Comprehensive knowledge of Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) standards, technical specifications, and working practices.
Demonstrated competency to approve electrical designs in compliance with NERS scheme requirements.
Understanding of customer service principles and their impact on business growth.
Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, particularly the pre-construction phase and project feasibility within the utilities sector.
Familiarity with Windebut and/or VisNet Connect software.
Desirable
A valid UK driving licence.
Experience in using costing models to produce detailed tender submissions.
Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
A sound understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage earthing systems and design.
Professional registration or progress towards Incorporated or Chartered status.
