Description Job Title: Advanced Apprentice Mechanical Fitter Location: Glasgow Salary: Starting from £18,018 with annual progression through the scheme duration. What you will be doing: The role of Mechanical Fitter involves working from engineering drawings, data and documentation in order to carry out the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis and maintenance of all hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment. This will include the Main Propulsion Machinery and Weapons systems. Specific activities could include: As a Mechanical Fitter apprentice, you will install major equipment, and machinery aboard ships, and prepare and align seats for the main engines, gearboxes and propulsion shafts. This will involve detailed and precise alignment techniques with minimum tolerance to demonstrate a successful build. You will be trained to assemble, install and maintain complex machinery. You will learn to read engineering drawings and to use a wide range of tools. As part of your role, you will look after valves, pumps and transmission systems, while being responsible for prime movers such as diesel engines and gas turbines, and recognize the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace. You will also have the opportunity to work in conjunction with different trade groups such as Pipefitters when installing equipment systems to prepare for Ship Delivery.
