Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Limited are looking for an Apprentice Work Rolls Machinist to complete a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship and join their team.
Successful candidates will be trained as highly-skilled machinists whilst also training in the role of Production fitting within the Machine Shop environment, producing complex, precision machined components from large-scale forgings and castings for a range of industries; primarily defence in a heavy engineering context.
Initially candidates will be working regular days (7:45am till 4pm Monday to Friday) but at an appropriate point will be expected to do shift work (3 shifts – mornings, afternoons and evenings timings to be discussed at interview).
Role & Responsibilities:
* To always promote Health & Safety in the workplace, displaying excellent personal safety and challenging others when unsafe behaviour is observed.
* Load/Set and operate the relevant machine.
* Participate in machining-based risk assessments to define the best-practice machining techniques.
* Inspect components produced and adjust the machining equipment or programme and tooling to ensure components meet quality requirements.
* Assist in loading and off-loading parts to machine.
* Upgrade machined surfaces utilising hand tools to a high degree of accuracy.
* Identify, communicate and report issues affecting machining component quality, quantity and deadlines.
* Set up, operate, adjust or edit conventional or CNC machining equipment settings and programmes for the machine tool being used.
* Machine high-quality complex components using a broad range of processes (For example, internal or external thread cutting, slots and pockets, internal or external undercutting). Also profile forms, tapered and eccentric diameters, bored holes, and tee slots.
* Build pressure vessel assemblies and undertake pressure tests to customer specification often under customer inspector witness - Re-furbish pressure vessel assemblies.
* All other duties commensurate with the role.

* Grade 5 GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English & Science.

Things to Consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

* GCSE English language C or 4 or above.
* GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
