To assist with the provision of Cardio-Respiratory services throughout the Trust and partnership agencies and to ensure the delivery of a high standard and quality service. This role will be predominantly based within the community setting providing a spirometry service.
To ensure courtesy, privacy, confidentiality and respect at all times to patients, relatives, staff and colleagues.
1. Working accurately and in accordance with the relevant guidelines, plan, undertake and perform baseline respiratory measurements, including Spirometry with reversibility, Pulse oximetry, inhaled nitric oxide levels and sleep studies. You will provide basic interpretation as required on a range of diagnostic assessments seeking advice from senior staff when necessary]
2. Ensure that equipment is calibrated in line with manufacturer’s guidelines and in full working order. Reporting to senior staff/ EBME department if this is not the case.
3. Undertaking quality control procedures for the equipment and completing documentation. Ensure safe use of the equipment at all times including replacing any disposable components after each patient.
4. Take a brief clinical history of the patient, ensuring that there are no clinical contra-indications to the test being performed and putting the patient’s health at risk.Make decisions autonomouslyin the best interests of the patients deciding whether it is appropriate to carry out the investigations.

5. Ensure that the patient fully understands the investigation procedure about to be carried out, including communicating the reason for the procedure being performed and explaining what the patient has to do to undertake the test in a variety of ways verbally and visually to ensure that the patient fully understands the process
6. Understanding the baseline investigation results to determine if the patient needs the administration of a Bronchodilator and further testing. Use of clinical judgement and interpretation of the results will allow the person in this role to autonomously decide whether to continue to carry out the investigation.
7. Maintain a safe and clean and fully stocked working environment for staff and patients. Ensuring that stock levels are maintained for clinics and re-ordering consumables/drugs. Auditing stock for usage monitoring and ensuring any out of date drugs/consumables are dealt with in accordance with the correct policy and procedure.
8. To recognise and recommend any potential improvements/changes that could be made to anySOP’s, policies and guidance. Ensuring that any changes follow the governance process.

11.Cleaning and maintenance of equipment and reporting of any faults to a senior physiologist
