This substantive post is available at 0.2FTE. The post is primarily focused upon undergraduate and postgraduate clinical education, with the potential to contribute to educational research. We are seeking an outstanding individual with good experience in general dental practice to contribute to teaching, clinical supervision, and associated academic duties commensurate with the level and FTE of the role. The role requires active and enthusiastic commitment to teaching and the delivery of high-quality student-led patient care. Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaborative approaches with existing teaching and research programmes in the Bristol Dental School and Faculty are highly desirable.
Main duties of the job
The post holder(s) will facilitate high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to participate in a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities including the supervision of students carrying out patient care, as well as preparing teaching material e.g., lectures/tutorials and contributing to important School activities including admissions interviews and student examinations.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to comply with all relevant clinical policies relating to the administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend their appointment, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management and discharge of their patients.

Essential
* Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience
* Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
* UK Foundation or Vocational Training (or equivalent)
* Membership of appropriate Defence Society
Desirable
* Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (e.g., MFDS/MJDF or equivalent)
* Other relevant postgraduate qualifications
* Higher Degree such as a Masters or Doctorate level qualification (e.g., MSc, PhD)
* Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or qualification in Teaching and Learning (e.g., TLHP)

* Knowledge and skills to assess and provide clinical care to patients within the scope of primary care dentistry including routine and surgical dental extractions, extirpation/restoration of teeth
* A working knowledge of clinical governance and to participate in audit and quality improvement projects
* Ability to prioritise, organise time appropriately and work independently
* Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks
* Able to maintain contemporaneous, clear and legible clinical notes and communication
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Broad range of IT skills
* Abilities to provide pastoral support to students and trainees, including signposting to specialist services where appropriate
* Capable of involvement in day-to-day clinical management
* Knowledge of when to refer patients to a Specialist/Consultant or other team
* Evidence of fitness to practise, including continual professional development and commitment to lifelong learning and potential career development
* Awareness of safeguarding
