Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint an Operational Coordinator with relevant band 7 experience to lead the midwifery team with a helicopter view of all midwifery settings. Strong leadership and communication skills at operational level are vital to ensure the MDT team are supported and empowered to provide care that is both safe and responsive to women and babies. This is a 12 months, part-time, fixed term opportunity for night shifts only.
Midwifery by nature is unpredictable, leading to activity and acuity levels that are both fluid and transient. As a result, the maternity workforce is required to be responsive to these ever-changing service demands. The operational coordinator remains responsible for the effective redeployment of staff to ensure that women are receiving care by the right person, in the right place at the right time.
The successful applicant will become fully inclusive of the existing operational coordination team with responsibilities to mirror those individuals following a period of training.

It is anticipated that by identifying an additional member of staff to join the operational coordination team, the MDT team working across the service will benefit in terms of clear direction, support and strong leadership. This is turn should see some impact in emotional wellbeing and consequently reduces reported episodes of short-term sickness from staff members experiencing stress and burn-out.
The successful applicant will benefit from working alongside the midwifery leadership team and gain exposure and experience at senior level, both from a service perspective and on a broader corporate are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is keen to develop into a more senior midwifery role in the future. The successful applicant will be required to have existing knowledge and experience in leading / managing a team.
