Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our team. We are a new nursery that opened its doors in April 2024 and as we grow we are looking to hire a nursery cook to work 12 hours per week to cook lunches for the children. As the nursery grows, more hours or a job share would be available.
Role & Responsibilities:
1. To prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals.
2. To contribute ideas to menu planning ensuring children receive a healthy nutritionally balanced, multi-cultural diet.
3. Have a good understanding and liaise with nursery staff regarding children’s specific dietary requirements and allergies.
4. Take an active role in supporting healthy eating with the children.
5. Promote our values and ethos to ensure a child-centred, safe, and stimulating environment is provided whilst meeting the individual needs of every child.
6. Take part in the day-to-day operational aspects of the nursery in line with policies, Environmental Health, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Ofsted Requirements, Local Authority Guidance, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
7. To complete Noodlenow! online core training courses and additional training courses including Advanced Food Safety And Hygiene Level 3, Food Allergy Awareness, Food Premises Cleaning, Health And Nutrition In Early Years, Health And Safety In The Workplace, Kitchen And Catering Practices and Understanding COSHH.
8. Work as part of a team, sharing daily responsibilities and workload.
9. To regulate kitchen stock control and collate food purchasing orders weekly.
10. Manage a budget effectively.
11. Effective management and use of nursery resources.
12. Always ensure health and safety requirements are met.
13. To maintain accurate records regarding food temperatures controls.
14. To maintain and manage a safe, clean, and healthy kitchen environment.
15. Take responsibility for EHO inspections.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
1. A current Food Hygiene qualification or willingness to complete immediately.
2. Must have relevant food preparation experience.
3. An awareness of food allergies.
4. Ability to work as part of a team and own initiative.
5. Good time management and ability to manage own time and prioritise tasks.
6. Willingness to work with children.
7. Good written and verbal communication skills.
8. Commitment to undertaking training and continued professional development.
9. Eligible to obtain Enhanced DBS Reference and able to provide original copies of required qualifications.
10. Two satisfactory references, one must be from most recent employer.
11. Willingness to travel to other Nurseries in the Ashbourne Group.
Desirable
1. Catering qualification.
2. Experience of working in a childcare environment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £11.00-£12.00 per hour
