Internship Spring 2025
Under the supervision of the Service Coordinator and Rabies Division Manager(s) of the Midlands Region, the Intern will assist in the research, planning, design, and evaluation of projects and survey methodologies with a focus in rabies surveillance.
Tasking would include:
1. Support the team in data collection and data entry of various cases.
2. Attend various meetings with program managers and team leads.
3. Develop educational material and toolkits based on identified regional needs.
4. Update policies, documents, and presentations; use creativity when preparing engagement initiatives, events, and presentations; participate in events when needed.
5. Assist with developing strategies to increase and implement employee engagement.
6. Receive additional training to gain proficiency and experience in public health administration and leadership.
In accordance with the State’s Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DPH employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge in/of Public Health.
2. Must possess tact and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with co-workers and the public.
3. Proficiency with computer software, word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
4. Intern is expected to function with direct supervision.
5. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Additional Comments
DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
