The NP will practice to the full extent of his or her licensure and education under direction of the division chief and in collaboration with the service line director. During day to day operations there will be general clinical collaboration by the pediatrician in the practice team. The NP serves as a clinical provider who utilizes his or her knowledge and procedural skills obtained from advanced formal education and clinical experience to promote optimum care of patients and families with acute and chronic issues. The NP with the support of the practice care team will use these skills to develop long standing relationships with families to provide well care, developmental surveillance, appropriate counselling on vaccines, mental health screenings, evaluations for acute illness, and management of chronic conditions. The NP sees patients from birth to 21 years of age. As an active member of the care team the NP will be expected to work together with the team to meet the needs of the patients, this includes evening, weekend, and after hours “on call” responsibilities.
Additional NP activities will include professional and staff development, quality improvement research, and primary care-based research initiatives. The NP acts as a voice of the patient/family within the health systems to advocate for the medical needs of the patient and family.
