About the Role
We require an enthusiastic, professional accountant to play a key role within the friendly Financial Accounting team.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing the consolidated financial statements of QMUL and its subsidiaries and advising on best accounting practice and developments to the chart of accounts. The role oversees the accounting of QMUL's endowment funds and corresponding investments and ensures fixed asset accounting is accurate and in accordance with agreed accounting policies.
The role is responsible for ensuring income and expenditure throughout the university are properly recorded in accordance with statutory regulations and that the balance sheet accurately records the university's assets and liabilities.
About You
1. You are a qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with strong financial accounting skills and understanding of UK GAAP.
2. You have experience producing the financial statements of a complex organisation.
3. You have experience preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations.
4. You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and logical approach to the completion of tasks.
5. You have a high standard of written communication, demonstrated by experience in producing reports for senior managers and other stakeholders.
6. You have excellent interpersonal skills, developing effective working relationships with colleagues and key external contacts.
About the Department
The role is based in the Financial Accounting Team, part of the wider Finance Department of the Professional Services Directorate. The role is based in Whitechapel with the opportunity for hybrid working (minimum of 2 days per week in the office).
