The Optimisation Team focuses on driving water network efficiencies through innovative thinking and system solutions to improve the water distribution network. They are currently looking for a Hydraulic Engineer to join the team.
As part of a wider team of specialist Hydraulic Engineers / Modellers within the Smart Water team, you will be responsible for developing system solutions through identifying, investigating, and quantifying the benefit, cost, and risk of network optimisation opportunities. You will actively contribute to the design and delivery or implementation of water distribution-based optimisation solutions across the AWS region. Preferably with skills in hydraulic modelling, you will have the ability to engineer tailored solutions that are cost-effective and efficient, within agreed timescales and cost constraints utilising the appropriate delivery route.
You will provide support to the Smart Water Systems Delivery Manager in ensuring opportunities are identified and prioritised and that programme areas are delivered effectively.
Using your technical experience as a Hydraulic Modeller in water distribution, you will provide hydraulic modelling input to the Water Optimisation Team and Water Business Stream in all areas of distribution system hydraulic engineering. The role will enable integration and collaboration across the various Water Sub-Business streams and wider key stakeholder areas as part of optimisation’s portfolio of work.
The role is key in enabling the development of Smart Water Systems, embedding new technologies and solutions to facilitate the efficient operation of our water distribution system.

What does it take to be a Hydraulic Engineer?
A Hydraulic Engineer will have a background in water distribution, with hydraulic modelling experience and general water engineering knowledge. You will have:
* Technical knowledge and experience of water distribution assets and systems from Source to tap
* Demonstrable experience of hydraulic modelling software packages such as Synergi or InfoWorks, ideally with optimisation experience
* Technical knowledge of geospatial information systems (GIS)
* A proven track record of identifying and delivering projects, preferably in an optimisation environment
* An understanding of building and managing productive, credible business relationships
* Strong data analytical skills
* Good understanding of IT systems and applications
* Ability to challenge and collaborate constructively
* Ability to understand and resolve problems quickly tackling cause not symptoms
