This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing team of hospital optometrists. We would welcome applications from current hospital optometrists and also those interested in expanding their career from community optometry. Full training and support is given.
We are looking for an optometrist who is adaptive, keen to learn new skills and expand their clinical practice to join our team. Our wider Ophthalmology team is supportive and the position provides opportunity for further learning and experience.
You are a committed professional keen for excellent patient care, personal development and an enthusiasm for complex clinical work. Keen to be fully engaged with the department, and to contribute to team development as well as clinical service delivery.
Main duties of the job
Undertake a range of core hospital optometry services as required which may include:
1. Refraction
Routine - usually on patients with associated conditions or complex prescriptions.
Diagnostic - refractions as requested to determine clinical outcomes e.g. cataract surgery or squint surgery.
Paediatric - refraction for young children with or without squint to decide if spectacles will aid visual development.
2. Specialist medical contact lens management - fitting of contact lenses for keratoconus or high ametropia when referred from clinic or from a high street Optometrist when it becomes too difficult.
3. Low visual aid service - Assessment for magnification and issuing of low visual aids.
The post holder maintains a personal clinical workload within these core activities and undertakes mainly complex cases referred by other staff in the optometry department for highly specialist optometric opinion. Occasional visits to theatre are also necessary.
