Job Title: Senior Planner / Planning Manager
Reports to: Land and Planning Director
Location: Head Office
The Role
This role focuses on site appraisals, policy responses, planning applications, and managing the planning process and compliance. As a key member of the Development team, you'll align with departmental strategies and evolving business goals. You'll also build strong relationships with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement across the business.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the submission and management of planning applications to Local Planning Authorities.
2. Prepare and compile planning applications, conditions, and appeal documentation, including research on site planning history.
3. Track and manage successful planning applications from submission to approval.
4. Maintain accurate digital records and office work systems.
5. Keep an up-to-date record of Local Planning Authorities' policies and Local Plan Reviews.
6. Monitor and review local planning policies, considering factors like transport, economy, green infrastructure, and climate change.
7. Conduct research to support planning applications.
8. Source, negotiate, and instruct external engineers and consultants, assisting in their evaluation.
9. Collaborate with architects on Planning Sketch Schemes.
10. Gather and maintain evidence from public consultation meetings as required.
11. Build and sustain strong relationships with internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Planner or higher.
2. Qualifications: Degree in urban planning, geography, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3. Public Engagement: Confident in addressing the public, council officers, and committee members.
4. Planning Expertise: Strong knowledge of planning processes, regulations, and approvals.
5. Communication & Negotiation: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
6. Teamwork & Independence: Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
7. Relationship Building: Skilled at creating rapport, building trust, and maintaining key contacts.
8. Resilience: Clear, articulate, and credible under pressure.
9. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to resolve issues effectively.
10. IT Proficiency: Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other relevant applications.
11. Time Management: Capable of managing workload efficiently.
12. Confidentiality: Trustworthy and discreet with sensitive information.
