Job Title: Abandonment Operations Geologist Lead
Specific Responsibilities
The Abandonment Operations Geologist Lead for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Geoscience team at the company’s Aberdeen office reporting to the Operations Geologist Manager within the Function, and the Geoscience Manager from an Asset perspective. This position shall lead the well subsurface abandonment designs in support of Apache’s well abandonment program.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead the well subsurface abandonment designs in support of Apache’s well abandonment program.
* Develop and maintain appropriate workflows to ensure effective subsurface delivery.
* Plan, track and report on subsurface abandonment design progress. Ensure sufficient lead time over well engineering and execution.
* Co-ordinate contractors and vendor support to ensure delivery of the well subsurface basis of designs.
* Delivery of subsurface basis of designs which form the geologic basis for use by the well engineer to design the well abandonment.
* Collation of geologic and reservoir input data in support of abandonment evaluation.
* Interpretation of formation top and base markers.
* Determine zones of flow potential in conjunction with the Petrophysicist.
* Act as focal point between functions such as the Drilling & Completions and Reservoir Engineering teams.
* Determination of fluid, fracture and overburden gradients and abandonment windows.
* Lead the evaluation of crossflow potential between wells and permeable zones through a plumbing diagram.
* Determine shallow gas risk and mitigation.
* Co-ordination of subsurface well abandonment evaluations on a per well and field basis.
* Provision of geological support and input to well abandonment engineering.
* Provision of geological support during abandonment execution.
* Provision of daily reports as required.
* Plan and execute logging, sampling and analysis operations as required.
* Assist with the completion of abandonment reports as required.
* Capture subsurface lessons learned and subsurface hazards to improve future performance.
* Engage with industry and regulatory bodies regarding best practices and guidelines.
* Assist with special studies such as shale annular barriers, sustained annular pressure and planning and execution of site surveys as required.

* Visible commitment to management of Process Safety by delivering against PSM Framework expectations relevant to role.
* Comply with Apache EH&S Standards, management system requirements and applicable regulations.
Designated Emergency Response Role(s)
* Provide emergency response support as required by the company.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
* Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology or Petrophysics.
* Significant experience of offshore drilling operations.
* Significant experience of North Sea geological operations including regional geology, hazards identification and risk mitigation, geophysical data and well logs interpretation including CBL/USIT.
* Have experience of leading and mentoring junior team members.
* Demonstrable experience of well abandonment planning and operations.
* Comprehensive understanding of UKCS well abandonment guidelines and common practice.
* Software: competent user of Geologix GEO, Petrel and MS applications. Working knowledge of IP also preferable.
* Familiar with seismic interpretation techniques.
